ISUI Prof. claims 2 golds in PMIAC, sets to compete in Intl Indoor championship
Sports veteran Drolly Claravall secured a ticket to the Florida international championship after nabbing two golds in throwing events in Philippine Masters International Athletics Championships (PMIAC) at Philsports Track Oval on November 8-10.
The Associate Proffesor V of ISU-Ilagan recorded a 14.61-meter in Javelin throw (400 g) and covered a 7.80 meters in shot put (3kg), dominating the country’s best athletes under the age category of 50-60 years old.
“Actually, javelin throw is not my pet event, so I am surprised with the result. Hammer throw talaga ‘yung pinaka-event ko,” 52-year-old athlete Claravall shared.
However, the proffessor-athlete, who won a gold medal in the hammer throw in the Asian Masters Athletic Championship, faced no opponents in this PMIAC season’s hammer throw event.
Meanwhile, Claravall, the current President of the National Masters and Seniors Athletics Association of the Philippines (NMSAAP), leads the organization in encouraging athletes aged 30 and above to showcase their skills and resilience in various track events, with PMIAC being a key initiative that emphasizes their goal
“We don’t concentrate doon sa medal or whatsoever na makuha namin. Ang pinakamasaya dito ay makita mo ang bawat isa na masaya, nagtatawanan, nagyayakapan at kung anoman ang outcome ng tapon ay pinapasalamatan,” the 52-year-old Claravall said during an interview
Of Radyo Pilipinas 2 Sports.
The NMSAAP will be competing in the Indoor Championship in Florida, USA this March, followed by the Asian Championship where Claravall will defend her hammer throw crown.
